Standing Outside the Fire

I love early Garth Brooks songs. I always have and I just do, I can't explain it and I don't feel the need to justify it. I was driving to work this morning thinking of how it is a gorgeous day and "Standing Outside the Fire" came on the radio. I started thinking about the music video. That video ALWAYS makes me cry. If you haven't seen it, find it and watch it! If you don't cry, are you heartless? Anyways, so I was singing along at the top of my lungs and I realized that lately, I have been standing outside the fire.

I think part of the reason I was unable to sleep last night was because I was worrying about little stupid things. The dishwasher wasn't loaded, we are running low on toilet paper and apple juice, the yard needs mowed, the house payment needs sent, etc. Why and I letting stupid trivial things worry me, let alone keep me up at night?

I have decided to live for today (yet another song lyric from Natalie Grant). I am taking some "me" time and I am going to enjoy this beautiful day that God has given me. I am going shopping and I might even call and schedule my spa appointment (Ayron and Taylor gave me my Mother's Day present early in case Ayron has to work longer than expected this weekend. They gave me a gift certificate for whatever treatments I want at Shear Expressions Salon and Day Spa!).

Garth Brooks
"Standing Outside the Fire"

We call them cool
Those hearts that have no scars to show
The ones that never do let go
And risk the tables being turned

We call them fools
Who have to dance within the flame
Who chance the sorrow and the shame
That always comes with getting burned

But you've got to be tough
when consumed by desire
'Cause it's not enough just to
stand outside the fire

We call them strong
Those who can face this world alone
Who seem to get by on their own
Those who will never take the fall

We call them weak
Who are unable to resist
The slightest chance love might exist
And for that forsake it all

They're so hell-bent on giving ,walking a wire
Convinced it's not living if you
stand outside the fire

Standing outside the fire
Standing outside the fire
Life is not tried, it is merely survived
If you're standing outside the fire

There's this love that is burning
Deep in my soul
Constantly yearning to get out of control
Wanting to fly higher and higher
I can't abide
Standing outside the fire

Standing outside the fire
Standing outside the fire
Life is not tried, it is merely survived
If you're standing outside the fire

Standing outside the fire
Standing outside the fire
Life is not tried, it is merely survived
If you're standing outside the fire

Natalie Grant
"Live for Today"

Sittin' in my room staring at the wall
Wonderin' about the meaning of it all
Why is it this thing called life
Has got me goin' crazy
So I open up Your Word and let it speak to me
The purpose and the plan that You've designed
Is clear to see, and I believe

I'm gonna live for today
I'm gonna follow in Your way
I'm gonna let my little light shine
Like there's no tomorrow
I won't worry about the past
I know my future is intact
So I'll choose to live my life one way
I'm gonna live for today

You told me not to worry
About what lies ahead
So I am gonna focus on today instead
Making every moment count and counting
Every single blessing
I'm gonna set my mind on the
Here and now
This is what I want my life to be about
And this is how...

My oh so crazy life
It's got me spinnin' round & round
Hanging upside down
Takin' one step at a time
Holding your hand all the way
And it'll be okay
