Another Sleepless Night

Ayron and I have been having trouble sleeping through the night lately. For no reason we just wake up every hour and a half. We had a lovely conversation at 2:42am this morning. I used to be able to sleep for 10 hours without so much as even rolling over.

The lack of sleep makes getting up in the morning harder too. I used to be a morning person. I could get a whole day's worth of work done before noon. Not now. I'm lucky if I get a whole day's worth of work done before I go to bed.

Any suggestions?

How old is your mattress? That could be the problem...Nathan and I had a really bad mattress and no matter how tired we were, we'd wake up several times a night. Then, about a year ago, we got a new mattress...nothing too fancy, but firm (no dips in the middle). Now, we rarely wake up during the night. It took me a few days to get used to the new mattress...but Nathan adapted right away. I guess shelling out $600+ is probably not the suggestion you were looking for...but its something to consider. :)

@ Emily - Our mattress is 2 years old. We got it right before we got married. It is a good quality mattress and we always flip, rotate, and all that jazz. Ayron would love to buy a King sized bed, but the money and lack of space in our house has prevented me from letting him.

Try making a neck roll out of rice with chamomile leaves and lavender. You heat it up in the microwave for a couple of minutes and take it to bed with you. It's all natural and very calming. I have one that I bought through BeautiControl and I take it to bed with me a lot. I don't put it around my neck usually, that's where Peanut sleeps, but I have it on my pillow.

Mom keeps saying she wants to trade you guys beds. Says hers is a King size (but I still think it's just a Queen). Something to consider?

Also, make sure you're not doing anything else in bed (other than the obvious 2 activities, one of them being sleeping...), like reading, watching TV, or just laying in bed and intending to stay awake. You may have to re-train your brain to get in bed, sleep, and when you wake up, get out of bed.

Plus there's also the whole caffeine close to bed time, full bladders, winding down, etc.

Finally, some monastics believe that when they're awakened in the middle of the night, 'tis a sign to pray. For what, they may never know, but a call to pray nonetheless. God's emergency prayer-chain team??

@Kianne - Oh, that sounds good! Guess I have a weekend project now!

@Natty- Mom keeps wavering. When we bring it up she comes up with some type of lame excuse (Well, I sleep in the middle, so you two might just end up rolling to the middle and being uncomfortbale). It is a California King.

I don't drink caffeine anymore. About once a week I'll allow myself 8 ounces around lunch time, but I stop drinking anything after 7pm.

I like the prayer chain thought. Then at least there is a purpose behind it!
