Amish TV

We have what I call "Amish tv." We have a HD tv (it has issues, but some day we ill get a new one) and a pair of HD rabbit ears. So we get all of 12 stations, 3 of those being weather stations and 4 being PBS. I have discovered that I want dish.

I did some looking in Dish Network and I am asking for peoples opinions. Good, bad, ugly, etc. I am also curious what people pay for their services. I know that I would like to have a DVR and dish in 2 rooms. We really don't need 2 dvrs, so one will do.

Any advice, stories, tips?

My mom and Dad have dish ONLY because they can't get cable where they live. When it snows, the dish goes out. When it rains, the dish goes out. In Auburn, I would check out Mediacom. The installation fees cheaper, it's faster, and you can get a broader selection of channels for less money...even if you don't "bundle". But you can bundle for really good deals too. We get phone with free long distance, Internet, and cable with free Starz for $75/month, plus tax. If you want a DVR you have to pay $15/a month extra though.

Josh and I have Dish Network, and we have no complaints. The dish does go out during bad thunderstorms, but that's pretty much it. If you hang on to your rabbit ears you'll still be able to watch the weather. Anyway, we don't have a DVR at our house, but the package we got allows for 2 receivers, and we pay like $40 a month. You can buy a DVR at any electronics store (though I have no idea what they cost) separately. I'd comparison shop to see which way is the better way to go. Through Dish or do it yourself.

If you want, give my parents a call. They've had Dish for a few years, and I think the only complaint I've heard is they now have 200 channels and still can't find anything to watch. - Tyler

We have dish network and LOVE it. We've only had it go out once and that was in a really bad storm.

But shop around. You might get a better price if you bundle it with other stuff.

We've bundled dish, home phone, and DSL (high-speed internet for you non-nerds)and saved a bunch.

If you decide to go with dish, I think we have some coupons laying around that might save you some money. Bethany keeps track of stuff like that.
